Music Therapy Project
GHRL has set up a new Project under the leadership of GHRL Director Fiona Sherret to research and ultimately deliver Music Therapy to Disabled and Disadvantaged individuals and groups across the Highlands of Scotland. This enterprise initiative will be run as a Project alongside the existing established GHRL business, which in 2011 will celebrate a decade of Interim Management and Business Support service delivery.
Fiona Sherret visited Boston to investigate potential for co-operation with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab on the GHRL Music Therapy Project, as one of 5 Highland Businesses selected as part of an HIE Delegation; the visit coincided with MIT’s own celebrations of 25 years of operation for their Media Lab.
Music Therapy research and delivery has been a GHRL Project in the making for over 4 years; GHRL’s objective is to provide access to quality Music Therapy (Research and Delivery) in Scotland given that the current service availability leaves room for development. If at all possible, GHRL want to deliver Music as a Therapy option for all, and establish a recognised centre of excellence in the Highlands.
As a direct result of the GHRL visit to MIT Media Lab, a pilot project has been established, in collaboration with the Media Lab Department of Music and Media, to enable a team of Mentors to take innovative composing software to a number of disadvantaged groups across the Highlands, to improve the wellbeing of users by enabling creativity, and to bring together remote users with a common goal. The pilot project shall have a diverse range of user groups to include amongst others, Children with Special Needs. Aiming also to serve the remote and rural communities, this project aligns with the aims and aspirations of our own Music Therapy project.
Please contact Fiona (f.sherret@ghrl.co.uk) for further details of our Project Objectives and proposed Services. GHRL will be pleased to hear from potential Students, Researchers and Customers (Service Users), to ensure we develop and deliver a service which satisfies demand, leads the field and exceeds expectations.
